technology

Our systems are written using standard open source technology: they use web technology throughout, and can be deployed on an internet server, or privately on an internal network server (intranet).

All user interaction with the systems is via the internet or a standard local TCP/IP network (ie intranet), using standard browsers: we recommend Firefox, but others (Safari, Opera, Internet Explorer etc) can be used if desired.

The server side coding is in Python, and CSS. Python is a very user-friendly and high-level language, enabling rapid development of code that is easily maintained. We also use web 2.0 browser coding, based on the jquery AJAX toolkit.

The application server can sit behind Apache, which is the most widely used and most capable server on the internet: this allows use of Apache's security features and high performance.

We use the MySQL relational database by default for database storage: this is a long established, very efficient and very stable database system: however, other database servers can be used if desired.

All the server technology used is cross-platform. This means that it can be run on essentially any hardware and operating system. We recommend PC servers running Linux as a cost effective, secure and robust server platform, but you can use PC/Windows, or Apple/OSX, or any other hardware/operating system you like.

Our EVOKE web system builder software is the basis of our services, allowing easy management of website content by our clients, and rapid development of custom website facilities by us, for our clients.

EVOKE integrates a custom web server ('application server'), and a relational database server. It provides built-in discussion group and website publishing facilities, and also allows rapid development of custom web server applications, to provide tailored website interactive features, as required.

standards

deepSystems promote the aims of W3C and all our sites/interfaces are designed using transitional XHTML and CSS. XHTML 1.0 is the keystone in W3C's work to create standards that provide richer Web pages on an ever increasing range of browser platforms including cell phones, televisions, cars, wallet sized wireless communicators, kiosks, and desktops. We believe that the standards W3C promote are helpful for integration. This said, technological developments require constant updating of standards, and at deepSystems we will never be constrained by standards. We will use and promote the technology that best provides our clients and their customers with the most effective and consistent results .
